Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice Review (Spoilers!)

Growing up as a kid in the 90s I got to watch and enjoy Justice League. This was my favorite TV show, including Batman Animated. So of course, when I heard that DC had made a decision to make a movie, leading into the introduction for the Justice League, I of course pre ordered my tickets as soon as was humanly possible.
And happily and excitedly went to see the movie one day before it's official release date. Being a die hard DC fan and my favorite superhero Batman being a main character in this movie I was anticipating the best! So did I get what I expected?
As a heads up form here on out there will be spoilers! So if you do not wish for that then skip this post until after you've seen the movie. If you want to know if it's worth the cost then for now yes, yes it is.

So now that those who don't want spoilers have left let's get down to the whole movie.
The movie starts during the ending fight of Man of Steel with Zod and Superman crashing into skyscrapers. Bruce Wayne arrives on the scene telling his friend to evacuate the building he owns. But his friend doesn't escape in time and goes down with the building. Then the famous scene seen in the trailer of Batman holding a small girl happens and you see how Superman would be considered a monster.
This of course sets the whole scene for Batmans decision to take down the famous and well known Man of Steel. Now let me just say it right now, this movie isn't actually a versus film. If you were hoping for a long fight between these two you would be disappointed. And sadly many people went into this film thinking that.
Now having a more broad idea of the lead into Justice League DC was planning I knew that the fight scene between the two would be short. And I was perfectly fine with that. I also knew that DC would try to treat this movie a bit more like the TV shows.
But let's get to why it's slower, theres a lot of build up with Lex Luthor who sometimes can make you feel that he was taken over by the ghost of Joker everynow and then. But he is well written.
Lex has of course instilled more fear into the people towards Superman as well as making Batman unsure of this alien man. He also states many times how power is dangerous and Superman has the most power on the planet. We also then get introduced to our first look at Wonder Woman.
WONDER WOMAN! :D Ok so Marvel lacks alot of crucial things and people forget that DC has been taking more risks for more years. Marvel has always played it safe so when DC introduced it's most famous and most inspiring female characters there were many of us girls in the theater cheering. The representation of this powerhouse of a character is wonderful and inspiring for us women.
Wonder Woman of course takes a data encryption tool that Batman was using to see what Lex has on Superman. This of course impresses Batman alot and he realizes that she might be something more then he knows. Upon opening the encryption key he learns that Superman isn't the only Meta-human who lives.
We are only given a snippet of clips of the Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman. A promise of their movies soon to come I hope. But after that we then are greeted with a montage of Batman training to prepare to fight Superman. And then we learn that Lex decides he has to not only kidnap Clarks mother but also his love, Lois.
It seems that if Lex hadn't taken the two and then used his mother as a tool to force the Man of Steel into fighting Batman. Then the fight begins and Batman uses the famous kryptonite to take care of Superman. Then when Batman holds the kryptonite spear ready to kill him he hears him whisper the name Martha, the same name as his mother.
Ok now I've skipped alot of this movies plot, and heres why. Batman uses guns and kills people in this movie. Now most people are use to the Batman who never uses guns but having read the original comics of the Caped Crusader I know that he used guns before and has killed.
Apparently this really bothered people but I kind of like DC going back to their original characters. It is a great reminder that DC was always a big risk taker and that was what always set them apart from Marvel. So if you feel butt-hurt like many over this then you may need to go back to the originals and remember that even Superman was originally a villian.
Now this whole time Lex has gone onto the ship of Zod and has been experimentating with his blood and Zods body. This is crucial because it introduces something and someone I always loved. Just because he is my favorite supervillian!
So back to Batman and Superman, Batman learns the truth and agrees that he'll go save Supermans mom if he'll stop whatever Lex is doing. They split and we are then introduced to the new villian, Doomsday. Doomsday should be well known since he appears many times in TV shows and the comics. This villian is of course impossible to kill and thus my excitement grew.
Batman of course rescues Martha and then returns to help Superman, well he can't really help but he can distract. We then get to see Wonder Woman appear and start to fight doing more then the two men, again love her! Lois remembers the kryptonite spear which she had tossed into a pit of water. Now I'll be honest I thought that was when Aquaman would appear to fight. It might be possible in the R-rated movie he is there but in the PG-13 he didn't appear.
Superman realizes that the only way for him to kill Doomsday is for him to be vunerable as well and uses the spear. This of course weakens him and he is stabbed in the chest. Yes Superman dies......Well no he doesn't and here is why.
So many people were made when they saw that Superman was still alive at the very end with the rocks floating slowly off his casket. I think too many Marvel people put their expectations of how the film should unfold into it. The movie ended perfectly fine.
Here's why, DC has always explained how Superman can be revived by the earths sun. After the battle the sun rises, this gave Superman plenty of time to heal from his wounds. So then does that mean Doomsday isn't dead, uh yeah! You see the thing that is hard for people to grasp is that in the comics and TV shows thye've explained it many times, Superman can't technically die.
But it would also be a weird Justice League movie if we didn't have Superman, and that's the thing DC is leading us into the Justice League movie. Unlike the Avengers, Justice League is well remembered by most of us Millenials. They know that we want to see a movie about our favorites!
So final thoughts.
Was this movie good and true to the characters? YES! This movie is the best at what it was meant to do, introduce us to the Justice League. It also was very true to the characters even going all the way back to who they were in the very beginning. Superman was a villain, Batman used guns and killed people.
Will it disappoint? For me it didn't, but if you are too use to how you think superhero movies should be, based off of Marvel then sure you will be. But Marvel is not a risk taker. They never have been. While DC introduced controversial characters long before they were acceptable Marvel played it safe. And here's the thing if DC didn't keep taking the risks in making movies you wouldn't be seeing superheroes on the big screen. DC is why change has happened and why it will keep happening.
Could it be improved? Of course, but so could the Marvel movies. I find it hilarious when people argue how they could've made a better film. Right so why aren't you a director in Hollywood then? And look the film isn't so much on how great quality is it, it's on the story.
Batman and Supermans relationship was shown well in this movie. These two are so iconic in our world. Everyone knows about them because of TV shows or because they read the comics maybe even both! They were the ones who kept comics alive and going. They are not just heroes in the comics but also in real life.
DC comics has always taken risk and they always will, if you can't learn to love and accept that of them then stay with Marvel, they'll never change or take risks.
And yes I had to include my rant towards Marvel. Heh, so anyways in the end this movie is wonderful to me and I can't wait for Wonder Womans film, especially since she is the best female superhero I know. Keep going DC!

Introduction

Welcome to my review blog!
I'm a regular nerd who reads comics and novels. I play video games, and watch the occasional TV show and movie. I want to make this blog all about my favorites and why I think they are good.
Now my reviews will try to be as spoiler free as possible but there will be warnings. I want to say that here so that when you read them you won't be surprised by a spoiler. If you're like me and spoilers just get you more excited then go right ahead to read them.
I'll have many many posts on comics and novels specifically. This will be just because I'm more into reading then I am into watching or playing. But I do have some favorite movies and TV shows that I will talk about.
My videogames will mostly be based on games played on the consoles and not so much on computer or app games. But there will be those just not as much as what some YouTubers are well known for playing.
For some background on my favorite nerdy things I will explain what and when I fell in love with nerdy stuff. Ready? Ok. :)
When I was a little kid my father would watch Nick@Night and the shows he watched the most were usually Star Trek and Batman 1966. He also would go to watch Star Wars, The Last Star Fighter, E.T., and many more Sci-fi films.
My mother on the other hand would read me stories all the time. She would read the fairytales by the Grimm Brothers, C.S. Lewis, and J.R.R. Tolkein. Because of my early introduction to fantasy and science fiction I became a well rounded nerd.
Probably also helped that my father worked on the lunar rover. When I really came into my own nerdom was when I was ten. The year was 1999 and my family and I were on a trip when we suffered a severe crash.
During that time I was alone in the hospital, but they had a TV that showed Cartoon Network and my favorite TV shows of Batman Animated and the Justice League. Then I discovered the Harry Potter seires. After that I played Super Smash Brothers and pokemon.
I was bullied for my nerdy love, but now a days those who are nerds are respected, because of the advancements in science and the fun movies that have been made. I'm just glad to be who I really am and love what I love.
So I will be putting up my first review tomorrow. :)

*Next post will be on Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice*
